Why Organic Matters
Organic farmers are prohibited by law from using synthetic compounds such as pesticides and herbicides (think round-up). They are focused on working with nature, rather than bending it into submission. As a result, these farmers build the health of the soil, protect water quality, and contribute to a more sustainable, healthy food system.
Dirt vs. Soil
In the industrial agricultural model, all thoughts are focused on killing any and all potentially harmful organisms. This mindset also kills biological diversity, and the life in the soil itself. The key to nutrient dense food is thinking how we can get more life on the land—more plants, animals, insects and micro-organisms.
